Blue Angels August 16, 2008

It is a bird, it is a plane…well, actually it is a plane after all. Another stellar thing that my family did while I was home was watch the mad aviation skills of the Blue Angels. “The Blue Angels serve as positive role models and goodwill ambassadors for the U. S. Navy and Marine Corps.”  But basically, they are just freaking good at flying and really entertaining to watch. If you want to learn more about what they do and how they do it, click here

There were six planes that flew in unison, apart, and in all sorts of crazy patterns, loops, rolls.

We watched them fly out in the middle of nowhere. We decided not to actually go to the show at the airport, but just look on from a neighboring field. I think it made for some sweet pictures.

Check out this video of the planes dive bombing. All of the clicking sounds are courtesy of Scott, Bryant, and Greg taking a bunch of pictures.

I loved it when they turned on their smoke trails. It made it easier to follow where they were and where they had been. Plus…it is just a cool effect.

My mom looks like a movie star

Watching the skies

These planes covered ground so fast! I am amazed at how long they flew without needing more gas.

Bryant and me. He actually flies helicopters. Same but different.

While at home, my family and I went to the Twin Falls Temple Open House. The temple is beautiful. The amazing thing about this temple is that it is just down the street from my parents house! We went on Saturday morning on the 26th of July. The Gooding ward was actually volunteering that day at the temple so I saw a lot of familiar faces from my Aunt and Uncle’s ward. Let me just say that the temple embodies everything that is good in this world and the next. It was amazing to me to have all of my nieces and nephews there and to try to see it from their perspective. The designs in the temple are so intricate, everything has a purpose or significant meaning in its design. My parents were temple guides for the temple and were able to tell us some amazing things about the process of building the temple and the thought that went into this particular temple. It will be so wonderful to go home to Twin Falls in the future and have a temple there.

This is actually a back view of the temple

The temple is located by the canyon and close to the bridge to the freeway so it is easily spotted from miles away. I wish I would have gotten some pictures of it at night with all of the lights on.

All of my nieces and nephews are so cute! I’ve got the best family in the world.

Melinda holding baby Eve and her boys Miles and Brenden

Bryant and Jenny’s family. I totally think that Dylan looks like Paul Hamm, the olympic gymnast.

Yep, it is just me in my family shot because Jordan was in Missouri working hard while I was home visiting family. I really miss him when I’m home without him. Home doesn’t really feel like home without Jordan.

After the temple we went home for a yummy lunch. Melinda looks angelic nowadays. All of my sisters are so stunning. I think that having kids has made them even more beautiful. Out of all of my sisters, I probably look the most like Melinda. I know this sounds totally emo, but you look at her eyes and there’s a story there. You can tell that she’s experienced a lot for her age. The same goes for Mignon and Gwen. My sisters are amazing women and mothers. I hope that I can be the same for my kids.

Grandpa, Mignon, and Grandma Quigley. I love these people so much. My grandparents have quite the legacy. The have a plethora of grandchildren and great-grandchildren but they know them all by name and try to come to family events. Mignon has always been amazing about staying close to all of the family. Thanks again for the ride to the airport Mig and for introducing me to canal boating!

Here’s my little triplets together at last! Baby Eve, Claire, and Maryn…watch out boys! In a blink of an eye these girls are going to be trouble! How fun will it be to grow up together so close in age. Cousins rule!

So, I’ve been a slacker and haven’t finished posting about my dear ol’ dad’s party. I’d like to blame it on the fact that I have been engrossed in amazing feats like a “Rabies Awareness Fun Run for the Cure” but really I have just had my face glued between the pages of Inkspell, a truly fabulous book written by the talented Cornelia Funke.

Pause for a short commercial break for this thrilling adventure that proves that Marcus Brody’s exclamation (in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade), “The pen is mightier than the sword” is definitely true. I love this book and its predecessor, Inkheart. Check them out!

“If you take a book with you on a journey, an odd thing happens: The book begins collecting your memories. And forever after you have only to open that book to be back where you first read it. It will all come into your mind with the very first words: the sights you saw in that place, what it smelled like, the ice cream you ate while you were reading it…yes, books are like flypaper-memories cling to the printed page better than anything else.”   - Mo, Inkheart

I believe that a movie is being based off of Inkheart, which is truly exciting, except for the unfortunate choice of Brendan Fraser cast as Mo. Simply sad. Characters are always better in my head than in the movies. Although, Colin Firth makes a magnificent Mr. Darcy.

Enough digressions! Here are some more fabulous pictures from my dad’s party.

Lauryn and Kate…cuties in pink!

Britani and Will (by mom’s new killer clock, so jealous!)

Oakley…need I say more?

Garth and Eli

One of the things I love most about my family getting together is that we make each other laugh. There is nothing like sitting around and sharing funny stories with family.

Madison and Gunnar

One of my new beautiful nieces, Maryn, asleep on her daddy’s lap

Baby Claire…oh so cute! Look at those little fingers

Oh Eve! I wish I could give your cute cheeks some kisses! She’s my little red-head beauty.

Morgan and I enjoying some homemade ice cream cake. Yes, that is a baby in his lap. She looks so little, she could be a doll. Morgan is the best dad. He’s very protective of Claire and doesn’t like to share her for more than just a few minutes at a time. He may look tough but he’s all mushy on the inside. :-)

Without these two amazing people, none of this would be possible. It is amazing to think that two people that love each other can have such a huge impact on a family. I’m so grateful for my parents. Anyone who willingly has eight children should be automatically deemed Saints.

Here’s one last shout out to my pops! Happy birthday dad! Keep it real. 4 sure!
